As from time to time I need to access my files from different laptop/pc or even via mobile, I’m starting to think I need to have bigger cloud storage.
Initially, I’m just using the free version of Dropbox and Google Drive. So I start comparing the paid version between them. My files mostly picture taken from my camera (when I still using DSLR) or from my phone camera.
Here’s some of my consideration:
• The price is almost the same for one year contract
• Google drive have Google photos. Very neat apps which can classified your picture based on person, location, etc. Dropbox have Photos function which will show your picture based on dates attributes in exif
• If you buy Google Drive, it will be used for Gmail as well. So you can enjoy 1TB in your Gmail
• There’s no concept of ‘folder’ in Google Photos. Google mind set is “search don’t sort”. So you can kiss that neatly categorized photo of yours good bye
• I found that syncing to Google Drive is slower than Dropbox and sometime picture that you already delete in Google Drive still appearing in Google Photos.
• Google Photos have unlimited storage if you don’t need to upload in original version (google will compress your photos)
In conclusion, I decided to buy Dropbox whilst I also upload my picture to Google Photos (compressed version). So I will get the best of both world.
What about you?
